Valentine's Day: 12 Tips to Make it the Best Yet

Author: Jeff Herring

  • Ask your partner what would make a perfect day for him or her. To whatever extent possible, create that day.

  • Create a scrapbook or collage of your first date. Include pictures, ticket stubs and memories of that time together.

  • Talk about the times the two of you felt closest. Then pick two or three things from that time that you can do again.

  • Find out about your partner's dreams. How? Just ask. These dreams can be from the present or from childhood, small or large. Then see how many you can fulfill.

  • Write a love note to your partner. You could write about what first attracted you to your partner and what still attracts you now; you could apologize for something or anticipate something in the future.

  • If you like to travel, choose a place your partner would like to visit but is not within your budget (Italy, perhaps). Then go the video store and rent travel movies and/or movies set in Italy. Cook Italian food and make it Italian night in your house.

  • Ask your partner this: "What does love look like to you?" The answer can give you the beginning of a map to guide you in expressing your love.

  • If you're currently doing anything in the relationship that is not working, remember the first rule of ruts: Stop digging. Find something, almost anything, to do differently to get out of the rut.

For one week, take over a household task that your love dislikes.

  • Give a treasure-hunt gift , Whatever gift you get for your partner, make a game out of finding it. Leave a card with a note ' suggesting he or she look some-'' where for the next clue. Thenn ink that place leave another note about where to find the next clue, and the next one, etc., leading up to where you have hidden the gift. Use your imagination.

  • Record a CD of music. Include favorite songs as well as songs that express your feelings for your partner.

  • If at all possible, take a day off or use a weekend day just to play. Play games, go to a park and swing, fly kites, blow bubbles - whatever you enjoyed as a child. It can be really romantic, as well as a great stress-reliever.
