Wind Chimes

Author: Eric Morris

Listening to wind chimes is a great way to relax, since they produce sounds that can give you peace of mind.

Different Kinds of Wind Chimes

Wind chimes can be made from metal, bamboo, stained glass, and wood. Metal chimes can be made of brass, pewter, or copper. They sometimes have bells that ring softly when hit by a gentle wind. Some chimes are made of metal tubes shaped like animals or flowers.

Different sizes produce different kinds of sounds. Large metal chimes generally produce deeper tones, while the smaller ones play soft tunes.

Chinese Wind Chimes

Wind chimes have been around for hundreds of years and have a role in Chinese culture. They are sometimes used in the Chinese art of Feng Shui, the practice of changing the energy of one?s surroundings. These chimes also symbolize luck and money.

Bamboo is also a positive force in Feng Shui. Placing chimes made from this material around your home just might improve your luck. Making your own bamboo wind chimes is a breeze, especially if you happen to grow your own bamboo shoots in your back yard.

To make the chimes, first cut the bamboo pines into various lengths and sharpen one end to a point. Drill holes in each length and use a fine chain to thread the bamboo tubes. Take a circle of wood and drill holes around the edge, plus one hole in the middle. Attach the tubes and thread a thick cord through the hole in the center. Tie a knot to stop the cord from slipping and make a loop on the other end to hang the wind chimes.

Now all you have to do is to sit back, relax and enjoy the relaxing sound coming from your own unique wind chime.
