Kid-Friendly Crafts Make For Sweet Celebrations

Author: Stacey Moore
As seasonal celebrations and holidays approach, it is only natural for children to get excited waiting for the fun to begin. Tootsie Pop, which celebrates its 75th anniversary this year, offers parents fun ways to channel children's energy into seasonal crafts. These fun projects can certainly make any celebration or party a whole lot sweeter.

Halloween

? Creepy Spider-Create a creepy crawler candy by wrapping pipe cleaners around the stem of a Tootsie Pop that has been painted black. First, lay one pipe cleaner over the stem and wrap one side to the right and the other to the left. Repeat until you have four legs on each side, creating the spider. Finish the spider by creating a face with googly eyes in the center of the wound legs.

Thanksgiving

? Turkey Place Card-Help kids create turkey name place tags for their table by gluing red, beige, orange and yellow feathers to the back of a Tootsie Pop. Create the face by winding a two-inch pipe cleaner into a circle and gluing googly eyes on one side. Attach the wound pipe cleaner face to the front of the Pop. Bend a very small piece of yellow pipe cleaner into a "V" shape and glue it below the eyes to form a beak. On a small piece of folded paper, write your guest's name and glue the paper onto the pop stick.

Christmas

? Tootsie Pop Angel Ornament-Create an angel by covering a Tootsie Pop with white tissue paper. Use a small piece of tape to secure it to the base of the Pop. Then, fold a gold pipe cleaner into a figure eight to create the angel wings. Cut another gold pipe cleaner in half. Attach one end of the pipe cleaner to the middle of the figure eight and create the halo at the other end by twisting it into a circle. Finally, create the loop to hang the angel from the tree by looping a piece of string to the base of the stick and securing it with hot glue.

Valentine's Day

? Tootsie Teacher Gift Box-Create the perfect Valentine's gift for teachers using glue such as "Mod Podge" or "Elmer's" to attach red and pink tissue paper or Tootsie Pop wrappers to a heart-shaped box. Once it is dry, fill with cherry and raspberry Tootsie Pops.

Easter

? Candy Flowerpot-Make this fun craft for your child's classroom or festive table decoration at home. First, insert a piece of Styrofoam to fit inside a small terra-cotta flowerpot. Push pastel-colored Tootsie Pops in center of Styrofoam for "flowers." To finish pot, fill open areas with tissue paper or Spanish moss.
