By seeing the obstacles upfront, you have the opportunity of deciding before hand whether to proceed on the quest or not, based on the odds ahead. You will be better equipped as you proceed, and prepared to handle setbacks that are sure to come up.

As you gain more knowledge on a subject matter, the more you become expert and better able to understand the inner workings. You will be better able to manage the risks involved, and better equipped to cut your losses and maximize your gains. You gain more emotional stability, and are less likely to panic under adverse scenarios, since you have a good view of the bigger picture and a firm grasp of historical antecedents.
