I Shall Wipe Away the Rain of 'Tears'

Author: Sharmila Sanka

O friend, why do you hide in the thick grey clouds which block my view? Come down as rapidly as the thoughts of a fickle minded person. Will I ever say no if you want to drench my heart? You always come and go like a visitor but I love to hug you, hold you in my palms, taste you and see you droop down graciously on to my eyes without staying for a moment in them. whispered Jessie whose patriotic heart was equipped with hope and happiness.

Do you ever realize the happiness your advent brings to my life? Even a person of sorrow or the greatest enemy of nature becomes fervent to look at you skidding gracefully from your abode on to the earth. What to describe about myself who hates to miss even your single glance which gives me inestimable happiness?

She looked happy to the outside world but in reality her excited voice was swathed in sorrow.

Walking on the country road, she started to compete with the clouds wandering copiously in the sky awaiting the right moment to quench the thirst of any dry piece of earth. Jessies attention was disturbed and diverted with unexpected news by her friend Jane who shouted-

Jessie, this is a crucial moment in your life and his too. Your son Jim in military at the Afghanistan borders wants to have a last chat with you on phone. Hurry home; he will call in few minutes.

They literally competed with the wind to reach home and it was not an exaggeration to say they succeeded when Jessie was just in time when the phone rang. She spoke her heart in those few minutes. At last she said-

Why dont you speak out my son?

Jims tone was like that of a child shivering with excessive love and endless gratitude. He started to talk with the most beautiful person on the earth thus-

There are 3 little words in the world which mean everything to you more than me and they are Love You Mommy. I am sure I will not live enough to utter these precious words again and again. I know my true heavenly Father Jesus will be there at the edge of the Heaven to greet me and love me but neither my worldly dad who is no more, nor myself who is ready to give up my life will be there for you to say these words of love. Giving up my life might not bring victory to my country but it sure gives Hope and enthusiasm to people born on this land. Take pride in my life rather than show pity on my death. Do not mourn my death; instead mourn the demise of Courage, Justice, Love and Patriotism. It is time for me to leave for a noble cause of war not sure to return. Bye and love you mommy. She heard not another word of his again and then she realized he hung up not the phone but her life itself.

Though her patriotism didnt let her love become an obstruction for a noble cause, her motherliness craved to have his last glance. Before sending him to the borders, in ignorance she thought her heart would stop its beat the moment she heard anything bad about Tim. But her heart was strong enough to hide this bitter truth with in itself.

Days passed but never the thoughts about Tim; her motherly love bubbled inside her. As she walked on her favorite lonely road she whimpered and her tears formed into perennial rain that nothing on the earth could solace her weeping heart, wandering mind, and ocean-like endless thoughts. Though the rain heard her prayer and came down to the earth as swiftly as it could, Jessie was not in a mood to enjoy and relish the arrival of her Nature friend. The thick drops of rain sat on her face as if to solace her. The rain drops on her face seemed as if they were covering up her tears in order to hide them from others view while a courageous hand softly wiped away few drops on her cheeks saying-

O Rain, drizzle perennially on her heart with love but never in her eyes with sorrow. I am capable of discriminating between the rain drops and tear drops as I am the little warrior son of my great mom who won the war. said Tim with his eyes filled with rain of tears.

"Rain, you love me so much that you sojourn thousands of miles only to hug my whole being." -Sharmila Sanka
