Touring Boston? Here Are Some Great Suggestions...

Author: Jon Tan

With its rich history, the city of Boston offers plenty of activities for tourists. Known as the birthplace of freedom, Boston is packed with destinations that are both educational and fun.

Historical Attractions
The city of Boston played a vital role in the Revolutionary War, and the most important historical spots have been connected by a 2.5mile long red line called "The Freedom Trail." The trail begins at The Greater Boston Convention and Visitor Center and visitors can choose to follow the trail themselves or take a tour led by guides in historical costumes.

The attractions on the Freedom Trail include the Boston Common, the oldest public park in the U.S., the State House, the Black Heritage trail, the Park Street Church, the Granary Burying Ground, where famous figures like Paul Revere and John Hancock lie, King's Chapel and Burying Ground, Benjamin Franklin's Statue, located on the site of the first public school in the United States.

Further along there is the Old Corner Bookstore building, the Old South Meeting House and the Old State House, once the seat of the British Government in Boston and the spot where the Boston Massacre took place in 1770.

Faneuil Hall
Faneuil Hall is next, followed by the Paul Revere House and the Old North Church and Copp's Hill Burying Ground. The trail heads to the Charlestown Navy Yard, the home of the ship the U.S.S. Constitution which fought in the war of 1812, and the Bunker Hill Monument marks the location of the famous battle that took place in 1775.

Those who enjoyed the popular eighties sitcom "Cheers" can visit the bar where it all started. The original Cheers is located at 84 Beacon St. and welcomes visitors.

Boston Duck Tour
For a unique excursion, try taking a Boston Duck Tour. These tours are conducted from actual World War II amphibious landing vehicles, which take passengers past Boston's major attraction then splash into the Charles River for the water portion of the tour.

Boston Public Garden
The Boston Public Garden is located in the Boston Common and was the United States' first botanical garden open to the public. Visitors love to head to the garden's pond and hire swan shaped boats that are pedaled by guides so guests can relax and enjoy the view.

Red Sox
Check out a Boston Red Sox baseball game at the legendary Fenway Park. The park was opened in 1912 and is the oldest ballpark in the Major Leagues. Look for famous features of the park like the wall in left field dubbed "the green monster" or the single red seat in the right field bleachers that marks the landing spot of the longest home run ever hit at the park, a 502 feet long hit by Ted Williams in 1946.

Finally, Boston has several top-notch choices for museum lovers, including the Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Science and the Boston Children's Museum. There are just about enough attractions to keep you fully entertained over a weekend.
